Welcome to the Resilience Module, Part One!

Click above to open this week’s presentation. Once you’ve gone through it, come back here!

As you’ve seen in the presentation, the field of positive psychology gives us techniques that we can practice to increase our sense of subjective well-being. Recall the formula:

Subjective well-being = life satisfaction + positive emotions – negative emotions

Resilience is an important part of positive psychology, and refers to the ability to thrive or grow in the face of challenges and difficulties, rather than crumbling.  The good news is that through use of various practices, including the ones discussed in this module, we can improve our resilience.

On this page you’ll find links to information, meditations and practices designed to help you to learn about some of the theories and practices of positive psychology to develop more resilience and improve subjective well-being.   It’s is divided into the categories of ‘heart’, ‘head’ and ‘hand’.  Try to do one activity from the ‘head’ category this week, five daily meditations from the ‘heart’ category, and five brief daily activities from the ‘hand’ category. For this topic in particular, be sure to try to engage in some of the hand exercises – in terms of increasing well-being, these have a big bang for the buck.
